Seafront hotels unite for 10-mile charity challenge

Staff from two Great Yarmouth hotels are preparing to put their best foot forward to raise money for families and individuals in need this Christmas.
Team members from sister hotels Palm Court and Marine Lodge, will be taking part in a socially distanced walk along the seafront on Monday, December 21, to support the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
The 10-mile stretch from Palm Court in North Drive, along the beach to Scratby and back, will be led by brothers Jason and Nick Delf, who are co-directors of Palm Court and Marine Lodge.
They will be joined by Marine Lodge manager Scott Barnes, Palm Court’s head chef Nigel Carter and Palm Court’s head receptionist Tessa Fennell.
Other staff will also be taking part, with all participants walking in socially distanced groups of up to six.
Nick said: “Unfortunately we have been forced as a team to spend much of this year apart and we wanted to do something that meant we could all get together in a safe and secure way. We thought that it would be nice to couple that with trying to support those locally at Christmas who need it more than ever after the effects of 2020.
“The Salvation Army is such an important cause because it helps people from all walks of life,” said Jason.
“We discussed what we could do so that people could sponsor us, and we agreed that a walk would be a good idea. I think most people have been walking much more since we first went into lockdown, so it seemed fitting to give this a go and put ourselves out of our comfort zone a bit.
“It has been a difficult year for the hospitality industry, but we are excited and ready to go for 2021. We have been using the time that we had to close to refurbish a wing of Palm Court and we have got a huge project in progress for guests to Marine Lodge next year, which we hope to be able to reveal soon.”
The walk will begin at 10am on Monday.
